    Internet Banks

Anyone tried an internet only bank yet? I have been thinking about moving to one now that my bank is charging for checking accounts and using debit cards. I know when I was traveling all around the country, I very rarely went into one of my bank branches since my bank does not seem to exist back east so I don't know that I really need a brick and mortar one anymore. Is there one specifically for RVers perhaps? Any opinions or tips out there?

My advice is to be very careful with this and excercise due diligence.
Make sure the entity has a banking charter and is FDIC insured.

I went to a credit union this year and I have never been happier. I do all my banking online free checking and get great credit rates. A good friends credit union pays for all her ATM fees.

Unless you are a full-time traveler check out what your local credit union can do for you and the community.

Missoula Federal Credit Union donates to the United Way, Missoula Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters and many more organizations. I don't think the online banks can offer that service.

If you are talking about ING or Ally, they do sound pretty good. I just don't know how I could deposit a check with them! I tried to read up on it, and they recommend that you still have another bank account, so that you can transfer funds. Well, I don't see the point in all that. I just have one bank account and I pay my bills online.

Yes, that does seem a bit complicated if you have to still have to use another bank to just so you can make deposits. I do most of my banking on line now with our bank and it's real easy so not sure if I would want an 'online bank only'.

I have an account at ING Direct, and I have been very happy with them. The main advantage they have over other banks is their rate of interest, even though it isn't as high as it was when I first opened an account there.

    Re: Internet Banks

I didn't really know that there were 'internet banks'. I use Paypal for most things and have the Paypal debit card but I also have a bank account. I've considered switching but I'm going to do some research first.
